These diseases are increasing everyday and a lot of people are getting affected by these diseases. One of the major diseases that bacteria cause is Urinary tract infection.
Urinary tract infection is bacterial infection which is related with your urinary tract, and there are different kinds of urinary tract infections caused by the bacteria depending on which part of the urinary tract the infection takes place. It can take place on the; Bladder, kidneys, ureters or the urethra. Depending on which part of the infections happens, there is a specific name given to infection, for example if the bacteria causes infection on the bladder it is called cystitis. For the kidney infection, whether it affects one kidney or both the kidneys, it’s called pyelonephiritis. Ureters and Urethra, both, are affected rarely the major infection takes place in the bladder or the kidneys.

This infection is caused when the germs, most commonly bacteria, enter the urethra and travel to the bladder. The bacteria or the germs cause an infection inside the bladder and there is a great possibility for it to spread to the kidneys. There are certain conditions that increase the risks of having the infection because usually your body gets rid of the bacteria that enter the bladder. Women have a high ratio of getting this kind of infections as their urethra is closer to the anus and usually after sexual activity or using diaphragm for birth control can cause this infection to occur. Other factors that increase the chances of having urinary tract infection are; if someone is diabetic, aged people especially those who live in nursing homes, if you have problems emptying your bladder completely, bowel incontinence which is the loss of bowel control, if something is blocking the flow of urine, pregnancy, surgery involving the urinary tract.
Although, men or small boys don’t get these kinds of infections compared to the women, it is important to know the symptoms to this infection because when this kind of infection happens it can be very discomforting and can cause serious problems for someone. Infection in the urinary system can be life threatening for a person.
Common UTI Symptoms
The symptoms to know if you have this infection might include; low fever, bloody urine or it could be cloudy that has a strong foul kind of odor, if you feel pain or discomfort while you urinate, if you have a strong need to go to the bathroom and urinate often especially right after you have emptied the bladder. For men who have irregularities of the urinary tract and have kidney stones or don’t have normal sized prostates are more likely to have this urinary infection. Even men who have tubes inserted in the bladder are more exposed to have this infection. For men who have some kind of infection that affects their immune or digestive system can easily get this disease.
Along with the symptoms mentioned above there are a few more that can mean that a man has this infection. Symptoms like; If someone is having back pains regularly or flank pains, if they get chills while they are shaking due to the cold or for some reason, if they get severe abdominal pain, fatigue, if they get a general ill feeling regularly, changes in the color or the texture of the skin and if there are some kinds of mental changes of if the person if in a state of confusion most of the times.
The urinary tract infection starts from the bladder and it moves upwards towards the kidneys. The bladder infection is basically due to the bacteria E. coli, which is present inside the intestine. When a person urinates, sometimes the bacteria are discharged along the urine, but sometimes the bacteria stay in the intestine and infect the bladder.
Urinary Tract Infection Testing and Treatment
There are different kinds of ways to prevent this infection from happening; if you don’t have sexual intercourse for some period of time and reduce the amount of it for a while it will help reduce the chances of this infection to happen. Taking low-doses of antibiotics can help too. Cranberry juices can help you reduce the frequency of this infection to take place as well.
If you think you have this infection you can get your urine test done to find out. You can also have a CT scan of the abdomen or a kidney scan. If you do have the infection then you should get help from the doctor and depending on which type of infection you have the doctor will give you antibiotics for the treatment. If this infection is very severe then you might be admitted to the hospital for the treatment of the infection. This infection can be very fatal to a person and should be dealt with properly.
